LUCKNOW: Identifying the porous Indo-Nepal border as a potential source of the spread of coronavirus in India, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to hold awareness panchayats in villages in the area.

A meeting between the health and panchayati raj departments was held on Friday. Seven UP districts -Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Sidhharthnagar and Maharajganj-are located along Nepal.

Residents on both sides have affinal ties, which increases the chances of unchecked movement of people from Nepal to India, Indian media reported. (With input from agencies)
